Information About Stroke Treatment

Just as French fries are not known as French fries in France, Swedish massage therapy is not known as such in Sweden where it is known as classic massage. If you want to get the same massage style in South Tampa, though, you far better call it the way it is recognized here in all of 33629, which is Swedish massage. Your Tampa therapist will then know just what you want.

There is quite a controversy surrounding the origin of Swedish massage, as we call it, or classic massage, as the Swedes call it. Its origin is normally credited to the Swede medical physician, physiologist and gymnastics teacher, Dr. Per Henrik Ling, while the French terms utilized to name its basic strokes are credited to a later Dutch practitioner, Dr. Johan Georg Mezger.

Some researchers argue that it was Dr. Mezger who actually originated what is known as Swedish massage nowadays and that it had nothing to do with Dr. Ling’s methods. The basic strokes of Swedish massage, they say, were not a component of Dr. Ling’s Swedish Gymnastic Movements nor was it in the curriculum of the Royal Central Gymnastic Institute which he founded in 1813.

Secondary complications of stroke

Incontinence:   Incontinence is a consequence of stroke which is associated with the severity of the stroke.  Incontinence affects not only the lives of stroke survivors but also the lives of their carers (Brittain et al 1999).  People with continence troubles became inhibited, causing a selection of reactions such as social isolation due to the fear that an accident may possibly occur, and embarrassment about telling others about their issue (Edgley 2001).  Nevertheless it is not clear from the literature whether or not incontinence is caused by the location of stroke lesions or simply because of cognitive or mobility issues.

Pain:  Pain associated with shoulder subluxation is yet another complication (Ikai et al (1998), even though according to Ikai et al the major cause of this pain is adhesive capsulitis rather than shoulder subluxation.  Many stroke survivors with sustained hemiparesis suffer from spasticity which interferes with their functional mobility and ADL (O’Brien, Seeberger and Smith 1996).  Treatment choices ought to be carefully thought by way of when spasticity produces pain, outcomes in impairment of mobility, threatens to produce joint deformities or contributes to the development of skin ulcers (Hesse et al 1998; Lagalla et al 2000).  Loss of sensation and seizures are other complications presented in hemiparesis instances (Broeks et al 1999; Rumbach (2000).
